According to data from Taobao and Tmall, before the launch of Tmall Double 11, the platform had nearly 1 million post-2000 merchants, most of whom were participating in Tmall Double 11 for the first time.
These post-2000 entrepreneurs include veteran soldiers who joined Taobao, college graduates who joined Taobao, as well as second-generation and third-generation Taobao owners who took over online stores and factories from their parents, as well as inheritors of intangible cultural heritage and time-honored brands. In addition, there are also college students who partner with their sister to open a Taobao store, e-commerce students who earn credits by opening a Taobao store in vocational schools, and couples who have returned from studying abroad.
Among them, the post-00s who graduated from university this year and started their own businesses on Taobao actively stocked up to participate in Tmall’s Double 11 shopping festival, quickly verifying market trends, business ideas, and business models in the first battle of entrepreneurship. On the eve of Tmall’s Double 11 shopping festival, Taobao and Tmall launched a support program for college students’ entrepreneurship and employment, and released 20 measures to support young people’s innovation and entrepreneurship. For college student entrepreneurs, Taobao has set up a “Tmall Double 11 College Student Practical Session”. Currently, half of the top 200 post-2000 merchants in terms of annual transaction volume on Taobao and Tmall platforms are engaged in clothing business, while the rest are concentrated in areas such as home decoration, consumer electronics, sports and outdoor activities, and trendy entertainment.
A sampling survey shows that many new stores born in the 2000s achieve profitability in the second month, with monthly sales ranging from 10000 to 50000 yuan. Old stores have monthly sales of 50000 to 100000 yuan, and there are also stores with monthly sales exceeding 10 million yuan and annual transaction volume exceeding 150 million yuan. Most of the surveyed post-2000 college graduates said that opening a Taobao store is more free and profitable than working.
On Taobao and Tmall, there are a total of 4 million merchants born in the 1990s and 2000s. In the past two years, young entrepreneurs have created over 2100 new leaf categories on Taobao and Tmall, including 100 new tracks with annual transaction volumes exceeding 100 million yuan.
